As for the coastal State's jurisdictional rights on the establishment and use of artificial islands, installations, and structures, these are regulated by Art. 60 UNCLOS. The legal regime envisaged by this provision is then applied, mutatis mutandis, to the continental shelf in accordance with the requirements of Article 80. The rights of the coastal State relating to islands and installations within the EEZ and the CS are similar, with the sole difference that in this latter zone they are far more limited, since within the EEZ such islands and structures can be legitimately constructed and used for many other purposes, such as the exploitation of renewable energy.

Abstract
As for the coastal State's jurisdictional rights on the establishment and use of artificial islands, installations, and structures, these are regulated by Art. 60 UNCLOS. The legal regime envisaged by this provision is then applied, mutatis mutandis, to the continental shelf in accordance with the requirements of Article 80. The rights of the coastal State relating to islands and installations within the EEZ and the CS are similar, with the sole difference that in this latter zone they are far more limited, since within the EEZ such islands and structures can be legitimately constructed and used for many other purposes, such as the exploitation of renewable energy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
