Welcome from the Chairs 1st IJGI Webinar Social Computing for Geographic Information Science: Which Data, Tools, and Methods for Analyzing Mobility? The increasing use of location-based social networks and the huge generation of social geo-located data from mobile sensing devices have fueled an urgent need of understanding and analysing the interplay between geographic information science and social computing in order to design new approaches for collecting, representing, understanding, managing, learning, interacting, and reasoning about social geographic information. New challenges and perspective are open if we consider how data collected and analysed can be used for services such as transportation and urban planning. This webinar is dedicated to explore how social geographic information can be used for understanding human mobility dynamics. Two international experts, Dr. Ludovico Boratto from University of Cagliari and Prof. Zhenlong Li from University of South Carolina, will outline current trends, research challenges and opportunities created by the use of social media data for analyzing people mobility in urban areas and for measuring spatial social interactions.
