In this chapter, we want to show how the role of XML is becoming a key choice in the management of audio/video information, which is becoming of paramount importance in applications such as interactive digital television. In particular, the chapter includes a first section that describes the func- tionality and the characteristics of a video DL, followed by a section that illustrates the advantage of a representation of video metadata through XML. The third section presents the ECHO DL and the fourth section focuses on the management of XML metadata in the ECHO Audio-Video Metadata Editor.
