Breve descrizione: A model quinone structurally similar to topa was synthesized starting from 4-methyl catechol and its amine oxidase activity was investigated. Some chemical and physical features of this quinone were also examined. The data obtained confirmed that an isolated quinone can mimic amine oxidase in activity and spectroscopic properties, suggesting that the TOPA quinone cofactor reported for AOs could really result to have an active role in the oxidative reactions these enzymes catalyze.
