Guglielmo Marconi's career in the Italian Royal Navy is a known story, whereas his career in the Italian Royal Army is less known. He was a complementary officer in the engineers corps, the military «Genio», from June 19th, 1915 to August 31st, 1916. In 2016, thanks to the discovery of unknown military documents kept at the Army's Historical Institute of Culture and the military «Genio», it was possible to reconstruct the scientist's services, activities and missions. He was the father of the first military applications of radiotelegraphy during World War I.
La carriera di Guglielmo Marconi nella Marina Militare italiana è storia nota, mentre la sua carriera nell'esercito reale italiano è meno conosciuta. Fu ufficiale di complemento nel corpo degli ingegneri del «Genio» militare, dal 19 giugno 1915 al 31 agosto 1916. Nel 2016, grazie alla scoperta di documenti militari inediti conservati presso Istituto Storico di Cultura dell'Arma del Genio, è stato possibile ricostruire i servizi, le attività e le missioni dello scienziato che ebbe il merito di introdurre le applicazioni della radiotelegrafia nella Prima guerra mondiale.
