Il ripostiglio normanno di Castiglione di Sicilia (Catania). storia di una scoperta eccezionale fra "la smania dell'oro" e "le superstizioni del popolino"

Le rapport suivant s'inspire de la découverte, dans les Archives centrales de l'État À Rome, d'une documentation relative à un extraordinaire trésor de tarì normands, découvert en 1902, dans le domaine de Castiglione di Sicilia (Catane). Il a donc été possible de retracer les conditions de la découverte et les modalités de dispersion, dans le marché antiquaire, du monnayage normand, qui, trés souvent, est malaisément répertorié. Le catalogue qui suit le texte comprend les treize exemplaires survivants, conservés au Musée Archéologique de Syracuse.

This note has been inspired by a series of documents recently found in the Central State Archives in Rome. These documents contain unknown informations related to an exceptional hoard of Norman tari`, accidentally discovered in 1902, in the Castiglione di Sicilia's area (Catania). Furthermore, they shed new light on this site as well as on the dynamics in the antiquity market of acquisition and dispersion of the Norman coinage, which was difficult to classify, until the beginning of XX Century. The thirteen specimens catalogued and studied in this paper are kept in the Archaeological Museum of Syracuse.
