Cupressus lindleyi is considered a native cypress species of Mexico and of Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras). It is a species with a very wide geographic distribution in 19 Mexican states. As wild tree, C. lindleyi occurs in small groups or as individuals scattered among other tree species in disjunctive and relict populations, which are often different from each other in various morphological characters. C. lindleyi requires rather mild winters, plenty of warmth and moisture during the other seasons, and well-drained soils of at least moderate fertility. It is found on mountain slopes, from 1500 to 3500 m a. s. l., and especially in deep ravines where the humidity is fairly constant. C. lindleyi is a fast growing species. Its wood is of good quality and suited to different uses. As C. lindleyi tends to retain heavy metals, it can be usefully employed for phytosanitation in urban and mining settings.
