Abstract

The continuous growth of energy demand, paired to the reduction of fossil fuels availability and their significant impact on environment in terms of greenhouse emissions and global warming, is moving the research towards new renewable energy sources. To mitigate the increment of earth temperature, International Renewable Energy Agency estimated that renewables sources must achieve the 65% of global energy supply by 2050. Solar, wind, biomass represent the most important bioenergy sources to shift towards a sustainable development. Among these, biogas plays a crucial role in the market of renewable energies; in fact, it was estimated an important increase in power obtained by biogas in Europe, from 14.5 GW of 2012 to 29.5 GW in 2022.
