Data center cooling with high efficiency as well as cost and energy savings is a crucial issue in the current energy scenario in Europe. Accordingly, in the present paper, a smart strategy for the cooling of a data center located in southern Italy is presented. The strategy makes use of the ambient temperatures, variable load, and the temperature of a geothermal well to define the most efficient operating modes for the generators in the data center. The model represents the cornerstone for the integration of the data center cooling into an electrical-thermal grid for the surrounding buildings.

Abstract
Data center cooling with high efficiency as well as cost and energy savings is a crucial issue in the current energy scenario in Europe. Accordingly, in the present paper, a smart strategy for the cooling of a data center located in southern Italy is presented. The strategy makes use of the ambient temperatures, variable load, and the temperature of a geothermal well to define the most efficient operating modes for the generators in the data center. The model represents the cornerstone for the integration of the data center cooling into an electrical-thermal grid for the surrounding buildings.File in questo prodotto:
