Scriveva nel lontano 1874 Jules Verne nel suo romanzo L'Isola Misteriosa, "... l'acqua sarà usata come combustibile, l'idrogeno e l'ossigeno che la costituiscono, usati da soli o simultaneamente, forniranno una fonte di calore e di luce inesauribile e di un'intensità che il carbone non può avere"?
