The UNESCO General Conference in 2013 created the list of oral and intangible heritage to preserve the extraordinary set of languages, rituals, social customs, and practices related to craftsmanship that over the millennia represent the nuances and differences inherent the evolution of people (http://www.sitiunesco.it). In particular, in the UNESCO "Le Macchine dei Santi" processions, important aspects are constituted by: the coordinated and equitable sharing of tasks related to the celebrations to which take part the communities, consolidating the mutual respect and cooperation and joining efforts; and the processional structures, the ceremonial clothes, and the celebratory music made by the musicians, singers and artisans who work together for the same project (https://ich.unesco.org/en/RL / celebrations-of-the-large-shoulder-procedural-structures-00721). Starting from these premises, the paper aims to illustrate the results of a study focused on UNESCO heritage in Italy, with the author's responsibility, namely identifying both positive factors and problems in the enhancement of these sites, with particular attention to the public spaces and the role of UNESCO recognition, also in relation to multiple kinds of crisis depending on new risks. The study was carried out in the framework of: the ISMed-CNR research entitled "Analysis and design of the contemporary territory: identity, health and liveability for resilient and sustainable places" with the author's responsibility and the "PRIN2020 #20209F3A37" research project, within the ISMed-CNR Unit with the author's responsibility; the Bilateral CNR-Cach Italy-China Program "Cultural itineraries and the "One Belt One Road Initiative". Good practices and policies of conservation and tourism development ". By way of example, the emblematic case study of the Machine of Santa Rosa in Viterbo, in the framework of the oral and intangible Unesco heritage list.
