The following report presents an overview of photochemical realm of photosynthesis with special attention to the simple purple non-sulphur bacteria. Some basic information of the properties of the reaction center, the enzyme responsible for the solar energy transduction are also presented. The second part of the chapter is focussed on the chemical strategy to enhance the photosynthetic activity of the enzyme and to the application of the enhanced reaction center in synthetic biology.
