We survey some mathematical models for electro-magnetic emission due to electro-mechanically generated sources in heterogeneous materials. Because of the applications in geophysics, we focus our attention on parabolic approxima- tions of Maxwell's equations; also, we estimate under various assumptions the discrepancy with respect to the complete set of classical electrodynamics.
