Abstract

The photo-conversion of CO2 into fuels and chemicals is a promising green strategy to protect the environment by reducing CO2 emissions and producing energy-harvesting products. This chapter provides an overview of photocatalytic CO2 reduction in membrane reactors. After a brief description of the configuration and function of membrane reactors, the authors analyze the most common photocatalytic membrane solutions. Specifically, they discuss the role of the membrane, spotlighting the effect of operating conditions on the membrane reactor performance. They also consider advantages and shortcomings related to membrane materials and photocatalysts, examining ways to overcome current limitations observed in conventional operations.
