This study proposed a surface soil moisture (SSM) retrieval scheme combining the information content of temporal changes of the SAR interferometric phase and backscatter at C-band. The scheme does not require any external information to constrain the retrieval process. For bare soils, the performance is assessed on a simulated data set. Results indicate excellent accuracy (i.e., a correlation coefficient of ~0.9 and a RMSE of ~0.03 m3/m3).
