The paper presents the objectives and the research activities of the marmora phrygiae project, carried out from march 2013 until December 2016. the project sought to study the ancient marble, alabaster and breccia quarries in the territory of hierapolis in phrygia (Denizli, turkey) and reconstruct the building stone procurement strategies adopted by the city's building sites, in accordance with a broad diachronic approach from the hellenistic to the byzantine epochs. the project, which was based on multidisciplinary studies integrating archaeology, archaeometry and ancient architecture, was also aimed at the study of the decay of the marbles of hierapolis.
