As part of the Marmora phrygiae project, an important line of enquiry has been the use of marbles in hierapolis in the Byzantine period. recent investigations have enriched our knowledge of the late-ancient and Byzantine phases of hierapolis with new data, above all thanks to the discovery of the Church of st philip, one of the main buildings in the sanctuary of the apostle. the paper concerns the study of the architectural and decorative scheme of the building, with a specific focus on the provenance of the white and grey marbles used inside the monument. specific attention is paid to the complex opus sectile flooring, whose phases of installation, decorative schemes, materials and technical characteristics are studied.
