The article examines the Genoese fortification system from the point of view "stone materials" used in their construction and their response to the action of weathering. The system of walls and fortifications covers a fairly wide period going from the 13th to the 20th century. This study gives the opportunity to study the evolution of treatment techniques,the preparation of materials and their placement (lime mortars with different additives and aggregates, different types of bricks, stone blocks treated differently).
