A novel chiral tridentate phosphine ligand based on ferrocene (5) can be readily obtained from cyclohexylphosphine and N,N-dimethyl-(S)-l-[(R)-2- (diphenylphosphino)ferrocenyllethylamine (4) in acetic acid. Ligand 5 adopts a meridional coordination geometry with d8-metal centers. The crystal structure of [Pd(5)ClIPF6 (6) has been determined.
