Abstract

In this paper we show an alternative approach to determine the wind field which is based on a proper set of measurements performed by a microwave remote sensing instrument: the scatterometer. We want to demonstrate the ability of the scatterometer to determine the field of wind in the Ross Sea where the meteorological parameters play a key role and where usually the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) interpolated data are used. A case study based on ERS-2 WSC scatterometer acquired by the Centre ERS d'Archivage et de Traitement (CERSAT) WSC in France is presented and discussed.
