The identification, dissemination and application of common guidelines can improve significantly the reproducibility of the scientific results and the exchange of materials and data in the context of scientific consortia, also including industry partners and meta-analysis projects. One of the main tasks of the qPMO Network has been to focus on defining precise parameters for the drafting of guidelines, to avoid unnecessary steps and to maximise time and personnel resources. The outcome was a quality-based model for Life Sciences research guidelines, i.e. a canon for the drafting of guidelines, firmly based on both quality principles and methodologies, and documentation management.
