The discovery of the necropolis of Pizzo Cannita and its anthropoid sarcophagi, dated back to the 6th-5th century B.C. and currently kept at the Regional Museum "Antonio Salinas" in Palermo, is one of the most fortunate events for the Italian Phoenician-Punic archaeology. The history of this discovery, although dating back to the 18th century, is known thanks to one of the most important documents in the history of archaeology, the manuscript report of the Cassinese abbot Michele Del Giudice.
