The 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) is the most known positron emitter radiopharmaceutical, in both clinical and preclinical field. Starting from an analysis of the literature of the last 40 years, we have deal with several aspects concerning [18F]FDG and their evolution during the years, and discussed about the possible future perspectives of this important radiotracer.
