The paper focuses on the ancient quarries of marble, alabaster and polichromatic breccia in Southwestern Phrygia, particularly in the Denizli basin and Uzunp?nar plateau included in the territories of Hierapolis, Laodikeia and Tripolis. The study presents an overview of the results of recent investigations and concerns the location and description of the ancient quarries (also related to their geological context), the periods of their exploitation spanning from the Hellenistic age to the Byzantine epoch, the archaeometric characterization of the extracted materials, their use and distribution in the monuments of the three cities, especially in Hierapolis. Lastly, two paragraphs are dedicated to a cultual relief sculpted in a quarry face n of Hierapolis, showing Apollo the Ephesian Artemis and Herakles, and to the ancient stone transportation routes (both terrestrial and fluvial) in the study area, respectively.
