Severe infections of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris have been observed for the first time on wall rocket (Diplotaxis tenuifolia) crops grown in greenhouses nearby Salerno (Campania, Southern Italy). Thirty to fifty percent of the leaves showed symptoms and all the product was unmarketable. Bacteria isolated from the infected tissues and identified by BIOLOG test as X. campestris pv. campestris were able to reproduce symptoms on wall rocket plants artificially inoculated. Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris could represent a key pathogen for wall rocket crops, since it may cause heavy economical losses. Disease symptoms and control strategies are described
