Abstract

In industrial biotechnology, enzymatic processes involving solid substrates present challenges due to complex structures and inhibiting compounds. Lignocellulosic biomass and plastic wastes hold potential for producing fermentable sugars and monomers. Extremophile enzymes and engineered novel enzymes offer stability and activity in harsh industrial conditions. Understanding enzyme structure andmechanisms is crucial, along with developing quantitative tools. Enzyme costs in biomass hydrolysis for biorefinery purposes can be reduced through proper dosage and recycling strategies based on adsorption information. PrESS proposes multidisciplinary methodologies to study enzyme adsorption on potential biomass substrates. Tests will beconducted with selected glucanases on real lignocellulosic biomasses, providing metrics for bioreactor design and enzyme selection.
