Theactivityofclustersdroppedsignificantlywithincreasingparticlesize.First-principlecalcu- lations, oftheactivationenergiesforoxygenadsorptionanditsdissociation,atvariablesurfacecoverage yielded surfaceenergieswhichresultedinparticleshapesresemblingtheexperimentallyobservedshapes of partiallyoxidizedsilverclusters.Thecalculatedactivationbarriersforpropyleneoxideandacrolein formation onvariousfacetsandontheedgesofthenanoparticlesprovideddetailedinformationabout the energeticsofthecompetingreactionpathways.Thesize-andcorrespondingmorphology dependent theoretical activityandselectivity are in good accord with experimental observations.
