Abstract
Piedmont and Savoy, in the first half of the sixteenth century, were marked by strong feudal particularism and society's internal fractures, fomented by powers in competition for hegemony in the north of Italy. In order to strengthen the sovereign authority over the territory and face the challenges issued by the military competition in Europe and in the Peninsula, the house of Savoy - and the house of Valois, during the twenty-year French occupation of part of Savoy Duchy - had therefore to join the consensus of consolidated and rising elites - by integrating both in the patronage network ruled by the dynasty, according to consensual dynamics of exchange of 'services' and 'favour' - and establish themselves as credible mediators in internal disputes, meeting the widespread demand for justice among the subjects.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
