Wildfires are a major threat in several regions of the world, including also high-latitude boreal areas. It is essential to implement efficient fire danger estimates at seasonal time scales, to allow for the implementation of efficient fire prevention and control measures. Here we discuss some of the possible approaches to seasonal wildfire forecasting and the uncertainties still hampering to fully achieve this goal.

Abstract

Wildfires are a major threat in several regions of the world, including also high-latitude boreal areas. It is essential to implement efficient fire danger estimates at seasonal time scales, to allow for the implementation of efficient fire prevention and control measures. Here we discuss some of the possible approaches to seasonal wildfire forecasting and the uncertainties still hampering to fully achieve this goal.
