THE SONG OF THE EXCLUDED MAN. EMIL CIORAN AND THE WOUND OF CONSCIOUSNESS. The essay analyzes the conception of pain and its close connection with consciousness in Emil Cioran's thought. Through this analysis, some typical themes of the Romanian philosopher's reflection are addressed, such as those of solitude, lucidity, boredom and metaphysical exile. Finally, the therapeutic value of writing, of the literary act, is examined as the only place where Cioran finds refuge with respect to a reality perceived as foreign and hostile.
