The presentation refers to the European Green Deal (2019), a package of policy initiatives that sets out a detailed vision to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, safeguarding biodiversity, establishing a circular economy, eliminating pollution, but also boosting the competitiveness of European industry and ensuring a just transition for the regions and workers. In particular, it focus on the challenge of making the transport greener. In line with the Green Deal, many concurrent initiatives at EU level encouraged the usage of vehicles with lower or zero emissions, being transport and mobility vital for Europe's economy and competitiveness, as well as climate and environment for EU citizens well being. The European Commission work programme for 2021 included the Fit for 55 package. It consists of a set of inter-connected proposals, which all drive towards the same goal of ensuring a fair, competitive and green transition by 2030 and beyond. It contains legislative proposals to revise the entire EU 2030 climate and energy framework, by strengthening eight existing pieces of legislation and presenting five new initiatives, across a range policy areas and economic sectors: climate, energy and fuels, transport, buildings, land use and forestry.
