Interpretation of climate changes ovewr the past two millennia through the study of marine fossil archive

The historical series acquisition aimed at a deeper understanding of the terrestrial system and a more complete forecast of its evolution, currently represents one of the main tasks of the scientific community. In particular, the analysis of global climate dynamics through its past history is a fundamental tool to understand its medium and long-term evolution. Research activities in the Mediterranean Sea through the acquisition of new marine data for understanding the climate over the last millennia represent a very important contribution to the study of its changes. In fact, the quantitative information on present and past climatic variations are essential to obtain a complete picture of the climatic and environmental situation

L'acquisizione di serie storiche finalizzata ad una più profonda comprensione del sistema climatico terrestre e ad una più adeguata previsione della sua evoluzione futura, rappresenta attualmente uno dei compiti prioritari della comunità scientifica. In particolare, analizzare le dinamiche del clima del pianeta attraverso la sua storia passata, risulta oggi l'unico strumento di analisi per poterne comprendere le modalità evolutive a medio e lungo termine. Le attività di ricerca nel mar Mediterraneo hanno portato all'acquisizione di nuovi dati attraverso lo studio di archivi fossili marini, recuperati durante le campagne oceanografiche organizzate dal CNR, utili per la comprensione del clima negli ultimi millenni. L' accesso ad informazioni quantitative sulle variazioni climatiche presenti e passate risulta essere fondamentale per ottenere un quadro completo della situazione climatica e ambientale che ci stiamo trovando ad affrontare.
