Sars-Cov-2 infection leads to severe acute respiratory syndrome, and manifests with a wide spectrum of clinical signs that fall within the definition of "Coronavirus disease 2019", COVID-19 (1). The first Italian SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus outbreak erupted around February 20th, 2020, rising rapidly with more of 1,938,083 cases to date (12/19/2020) and more than 68,447 deaths attributable to this infection. However, it is believed that the official data underestimated the real exposure of the population to the virus and, according to the Italian Civil Protection, the actual Covid-related case casualties could be 5 to 10 times higher. SARS-CoV-2 infection not only presents as a Coronavirus disease, but asymptomatic and paucisymptomatic infections have been identified that would be responsible for transmitting the infection in 15-50% of cases, according to a recent meta-analysis (2).
