Abstract

Matching the words "Commons and Value" might seem an oxymoron only until yesterday. At an institutional level, the Ostrom heritage was on natural Commons' productivity also within multidimensional realities. By the organizational side, many things are happened since the moment, which we can fix around the early '60s, when economic theory attempted in estimating the outcomes, if not the rent extraction or convenience in general deriving from the "interest groups" inherent action (see Olson). Nowadays, regional economics and economic sociology are strongly claiming the need to conduct empirical research on the (urban) Commons and their relevant Communities. They can be considered as a significant expression of collective and informal action in contemporary cities. In these terms, they are considered important because they make up an essential portion of the practices that coordinate the actors of a complex regional industrial organizational ecology. The strategic positioning of these emerging experiences, among the local organizational ecology, could play a role in strengthening the local economy against external shocks, as well as in creating entrepreneurial capabilities, or in favoring new job opportunities for young people. Starting from some direct research experiences mostly conducted on the Neapolitan urban context, the present paper would give an empirical survey of some cases of cross-fertilization among free membership, the reuse of historical and cultural heritage abandoned buildings with some firm creation hypotheses in different productive contexts.
