Abstract

Amphiphilic cellulose (AC) has emerged as an attractive biomaterial for biomedical applications due to its unique properties. Using it as an alternative for synthetic amphiphilic polymers opens up new avenues to prepare new sustainable amphiphilic materials to decrease environmental impacts. Herein, recent attempts to tailor different amphiphilic cellulose materials from resources such as cellulose nanofibers, bacterial cellulose and cellulose derivatives will be discussed. Studying the parameters of amphiphilic cellulose materials such as the morphology and the surface chemistry will provide new approaches in the chemistry of amphiphilic polymers. Amphiphilic cellulose shows promising applications in fields such as drug delivery and molecular/particle adsorption.
