Uncommon Objects. Remarks on some terracotta statuettes from Ca-tania · The large votive deposits enable to address the study of the materialevidence from different perspectives. The present paper concerns two tallstatuettes of Late Archaic period from the votive deposit of Piazza San Fran-cesco, Catania. In addition to the size (between 50 and 60 cm of high), theyhave a remarkable technical quality. Moreover, they present some differ-ences between the two halves of the face. Emphasis is placed both on thecreation of the prototype and the first steps of the derivative production bya creative craftsman and on the possibility that the asymmetries could en-hance the effect of the statuettes from one viewpoint. Finally, attention ispaid to the issue of the function and value of the tall clay statuettes in thevotive contexts.
