Uncommon Objects. Remarks on some terracotta statuettes from Ca- tania · The large votive deposits enable to address the study of the material evidence from different perspectives. The present paper concerns two tall statuettes of Late Archaic period from the votive deposit of Piazza San Fran- cesco, Catania. In addition to the size (between 50 and 60 cm of high), they have a remarkable technical quality. Moreover, they present some differ- ences between the two halves of the face. Emphasis is placed both on the creation of the prototype and the first steps of the derivative production by a creative craftsman and on the possibility that the asymmetries could en- hance the effect of the statuettes from one viewpoint. Finally, attention is paid to the issue of the function and value of the tall clay statuettes in the votive contexts.
