Prevention and Therapeutic Interventions. The Psycho-pedagogical Medical Center in Post-war Italy

Especially the World Wars were characterised by a previously unknown level of violence and destruction. In this connection, war disability was a central aspect of European post-war societies in the twentieth century. With this in mind, this book discusses the meaning of disabled veterans subject to physical and/or mental injuries for the history of modern European societies. Domenica La Banca provides an insight into Italian post-war society after the Second World War. In her article ‘Prevention and Therapeutic Intervention. The Psycho-Pedagogical Medical Centre in Post-war Italy’, she does not focus on the injured soldiers. Instead, she deals with civilian war invalids, more specifically the interdisciplinary psychosocial and psycho-pedagogical care of traumatised children, i.e. a particularly vulnerable population group that was exposed to multiple experiences of violence, traumatising experiences and disorderly living conditions.
