[Extract] The extraordinary invention of the “voltaic” battery, published by the great and creative Italian scientist Alessandro Volta in 1800, opened the way to electrochemistry, a lively branch of chemistry that is extremely relevant today to face the challenges of sustainability.The intense and multifaceted history of electrochemistry, from its origin to the most promising developments, have been the focus of an open educational event held in Como, the birthplace of Alessandro Volta, on October 24th, 2022, in the framework of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.
