The paper addresses the problem of homogenising and integrating a network of Terminology Documentation Centres (TDCs). In general, each TDC houses a set of data banks and structures the information using a particular classification system. The paper outlines the CoReC model used to represent classification systems and describe semantic relations between the concepts of distinct classification systems. The distinctive feature of CoReC is that it helps the TDC user in the cognitive process which leads to the concept of a classification system as semantically close as possible to the concept sought in the data bank. The paper also proposes a meta-model of terminology poles capable of showing the 'network user' the set of TDCs as a single entity with a single man-machine interface.

CoReC: a Model for Integrating Classification Systems

1999
