In this paper, the results of a series of experimental tests on data transfer over ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network are reported. After a short presentation on the principal characteristics of the ATM technology, the environment used for the test is described. Then, the communication tests realised using the transport protocols AALS (ATM Adaption Layer 5), TCP (Transmission ControlProtocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol) are discussed. The test results show that transmission parameter tuning can have a great influence on data loss, especially when dealing with receiving stations that are not very powerful.

Abstract
In this paper, the results of a series of experimental tests on data transfer over ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network are reported. After a short presentation on the principal characteristics of the ATM technology, the environment used for the test is described. Then, the communication tests realised using the transport protocols AALS (ATM Adaption Layer 5), TCP (Transmission ControlProtocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol) are discussed. The test results show that transmission parameter tuning can have a great influence on data loss, especially when dealing with receiving stations that are not very powerful.File in questo prodotto:
