In the Sudano-Sahelian zone the natural environment is deteriorating at a worryingly rhythm. Despite of the measures taken by the local authorities and supported by the international community there is still an intensive and not sustainable exploitation of the forest resources. This is particularly evident in the Logone Valley, along the border between Chad and Cameroon, since wood and coal still represent the main economic activity for the people living in this area. The specific goal of the project is to promote a sustainable and participatory management model of the forest resources of the Logone Valley, in order to encourage the development of eco-friendly economic initiatives among the forest cooperatives and organizations. The implementation of a GIS as a project support is functional to create an instrument for the monitoring of the activities promoted by the program, to share the results with the organizations involved easily and to elaborate forest management plans.
