Abstract

Aiming to offer a critical and original outlook on biobased polycarbonates (PC), this study provides an answer to selected questions of interest to both chemical industry managers and research practitioners aiming, respectively, to commercialize and develop new advanced biosourced PCs. Will they remain a niche in the huge PC market? What are the main hurdles to be overcome for their mass scale commercialization? Will the renewable raw materials originate only from food biomass such as starch? What role will eminent green chemistry technologies such as heterogeneous catalysis and biotechnology play?
