As is well known, the Etruscan civilization, expert in hydraulic principles and technologies, was able to manage the capture of water, its transportation, the disposal of waste water, agricultural and hydrogeological drainage and irrigation of cultivated fields. The Norchia site in the Viterbo area has been systematically investigated by the CNR. In this study the focus will be on the management of water for daily life through the conveyance and preservation in wells and cisterns of the settlement, their disposal in the necropolis of Pile, the bridges that allow the crossing of the three watercourses surrounding the site (Pile, Acqualta and Biedano), the drainage tunnels of the road cut known as the “Cava Buia”, tunnels and wells both for drainage and irrigation of land aimed at agriculture of the Romanization phase and finally the medieval “pestarole” used both for grape crushing and hemp cultivation.
