The occurrence of criconematid nematodes was investigated in various types of vegetation throughout the territory of the Slovak Republic. These nematodes were observed in 25% of all soil samples with different frequency in individual types of vegetation. A total of 17 species was recorded, from which 9 species are for the first time observed in this territory. Most of the species are associated with natural types of vegetation, 2 species only, Mesocriconema antipolitanum and M. xenoplax, were observed in arable soil as well as in natural ecosystems. These 2 species together with Criconema annuliferum are the most widespread species. Criconemoides annulatus, C. parvus, Criconema longulum, Ogma cobbi, O. menzeli, unidentified Ogma sp., and Xenocriconemella macrodora were observed exclusively in soils with various forest types. More ecological and systematical information on individual species observed are presente
