Persistenze e continuità delle testimonianze artistiche nella Sabina tiberina: la chiesa di S. Adamo a Cantalupo in Sabina e la chiesa di Santa Maria in Legarano a Casperia

The essay focuses on the churches built near the imperial villas in the territory of Forum Novum, a rather widespread phenomenon in the Sabina tiberina that raises the problematic question of the villa-church relationship. It is not yet possible to con*rm the continuity of occupation from Roman settlements to churches, though it is believed that the need to reuse Roman remains was a determining factor that characterized the style of Romanesque religious architec- ture in the Sabina tiberina. )ese are rural churches or parishes decorated inside with frescoed cycles dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. )ey are paintings of dierent quality and execution that demonstrate the variety of the local artistic language. Speci*cally, we propose a rereading of the artistic and conservation events linked to the decoration of the churches of S. Adamo in Cantalupo and Santa Maria in Legarano near Casperia.
