Il municipium di Forum Novum, la villa suburbana e altre testimonianze nel territorio di Torri in Sabina

This chapter presents a summary of the historical archaeological data known for the municipium of Forum Novum, located in the area where the church of S. Maria in Vescovio stands in the municipality of Torri in Sabina. The investiga- tions conducted by the British School at Rome in the urban center area also led to the identification of a villa, the layout of which was defined through geophysical prospection. Some excavation tests were also carried out which provided interesting data on the chronology and functions of the building in the various phases. According to a hypothesis by F. Coarelli, it is also possible to connect the construction of the villa with Faianius Plebeius, an individual known from two inscriptions because as a duovir he made important benefactions for the inhabitants of the town.
