Trasformazioni e fine delle ville nel territorio di Forum Novum

There is little information on the phases of late antique occupation in many of the villas under consideration due to the lack of regular excavations. The research conducted in Cottanello and at the Forum Novum villa, however, made it possible to identify reuses of existing building structures for different purposes and with the use of perishable materials. A particularly relevant context is that of the villa of Vacone, where the most recent excavations have offered important data for a phase of Lombard occupation following the abandonment of the villa. Finally, particular attention is paid to the theme of the villa-church relationship, at the center of the debate on the transformations and reuses of villas, given the frequency of cases of church construction near or on top of the structures of Roman villas.
