The Giaccherino I F 2 Manuscript and the Tradition of the Florentine Golden Legend The ms. Giaccherino I F 2, housed in the Biblioteca Provinciale dei Frati Minori in Florence, holds a significant place in the tradition of the fourteenthcentury Florentine translation of the Legenda aurea. However, this manuscript also presents a later version (1475 ca.) that has undergone extensive linguistic and stylistic revisions. These competing aspects pose a considerable challenge to the goal of producing a critical edition of the text. This essay explores the potential cultural reasons behind the unique way in which the text is transmitted in this codex by examining both its material and textual features. In the concluding section, we highlight how the editors of the Florentine Legenda aurea addressed the ecdotic issues associated with the codex, particularly concerning the selection of variants in the critical apparatus. The Giaccherino I F 2 Manuscript and the Tradition of the Florentine Golden Legend The ms.
