La centuriazione ad est di Firenze: nuovi spunti di ricerca dalle immagini aeree

This paper deals with preliminary data deriving from the study, still in progress, on the centuriation of Florentia. The subject, already covered in the past by distinguished scholars, is especially interesting for the new results obtained through a multi-scalar and multi-temporal use of historical aerial photographs and ancient cartography. Relevant in this study are the new data on the agrarian division to the east of the Roman colony, more extensive than previously assessed by the archaeological bibliography, as it included also the territory south of the river Arno (in what is today the municipality of Bagno a Ripoli). Archaeological excavations have recently confirmed this hypothesis, shared with SABAP in past years as a preliminary contribution to its urgent preservation activities.

Il contributo riguarda i dati preliminari dello studio, tuttora in corso, sulla centuriazione di Florentia. L’argomento, trattato già da illustri studiosi, appare particolarmente interessante per i nuovi risultati che la metodologia di indagine, basata sull’utilizzo multiscalare e multitemporale delle fotografie aeree storiche e sulla cartografia antica, ha permesso di ottenere. Focus dell’intervento i nuovi dati sulla divisione agraria ad oriente della colonia romana che, più estesa di quanto noto dalla bibliografia archeologica, comprendeva anche il territorio a Sud dell’Arno nel comune di Bagno a Ripoli. Tale ipotesi, condivisa in forma ancora embrionale negli anni passati con la SABAP per le impellenti attività di tutela territoriale, trova conferma nei recenti scavi archeologici.
