In response to the battle against viruses and bacteria, we designed two classes of high-performance filter media suitable for advance the facemasks providing efficient solutions against diseases propagation. We developed filter media based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coating and nanofibers doped with silver nanoparticles in colloidal water dispersions by means of spray-coating and electrospinning technologies with different filtration performances that combines three main performance requirements: high air filtration efficiency to capture nanometer-sized particles, low airflow resistance to ensure breathability and antimicrobial activity to inactivate microorganisms.
